Dance Unlimited, as a performing arts center, has had the privilege of watching many of our students grow and learn through several years of wonderful performances. Both our dance and our acting productions feature fantastic backdrops and sets, character costumes and more.
Dance Productions
Past dance productions have included a wide variety of themes, including Alice in Wonderland, The Little Mermaid, The Wizard of Oz, Babes in Toyland, Beauty and the Beast, Mary Poppins, Eloise Goes to the Movies, Cinderella, Snow White and Peter Pan.
Spotlight typically performs two productions each year - a musical theater number and an annual Musical Theater "Hodge-Podge." Hodge-Podge is just exactly what the title suggests, an evening of completely unrelated scenes and songs from some of Broadway's best, performed by all the Spotlight Acting Academy kids. Each class is assigned a 30-40 minute condensed, "Cliff-Notes" version of a popular musical, and all four are strung together in an evening of lively and delightful entertainment showcasing the students' growth and abilities. In 2004, we began the tradition with "You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown", "Grease", "Peter Pan", and "Chicago", and, the response was so resoundingly positive, that we have adopted the format as an annual showcase.
Hodge-Podge 2005 surpassed our highest expectations, and played to packed houses. The shows were "Little Shop of Horrors", Disney's "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs", and original production entitled "Four Friends"; entirely conceived, written and performed by the Theater Fundamentals Class under the direction of Ms. Jodi Nestander, and, "Cats".
