At Spotlight Acting Academy, our Mission is to work with highly motivated students with a serious interest in pursuing the Performing Arts, to help them discover, and/or grow their respective talents. Limiting each class size to no more than 10 enrolled students (not including Scholarships), allows us to avoid the “cookie-cutter” approach, and instead, offer very personal, hands on instruction geared to the respective students needs.
Award winning, and Nationally recognized Actor, Director, Designer; Jonathan Beck Reed heads the Program, and brings 35 years of experience to the classroom offering the unique perspective and insight that only someone who has cultivated a long and successful career in New York and abroad can provide. Utilizing monologues and scenes from current and classic works, Jonathan places students in the shoes of professional “working” actors, guiding them through the practical evolution of developing character and communicating emotions and ideas.
The training at Spotlight is “practical”! With the exception of Theater FUNdamentals, and Acting One, we seldom employ the use of “Theater Games” as part of our instruction. We train students in areas they must master in order to realistically work and compete. This includes, but is not limited to - creating and cultivating a character, THAT character's purpose within a given scene or Play/Musical, their motivation, dialect, projection, articulation, engaging an Audience, understanding the Author's intent and how to achieve it, sharing the stage with others, memorizing quickly, and other relevant and necessary skills. Though our focus is on training those with a keen and consuming interest, we also encourage and welcome those with a passing interest. Over our eight years of operation, we have accepted, and inspired, many among that “group” who came to our Studio with just a cursory interest in performing, only to see them wind up on the Stages of Lyric, City Rep, Jewel Box, The Pollard, Music Theater of Wichita, Carpenter Square, and Broadway. In fact, two of our Students have been represented in featured and leading roles in the Broadway Productions of THE GRINCH WHO STOLE CHRISTMAS and HAIRSPRAY. Mr. Reed also directs, and acts extensively in the University and Professional arena and has often cast and encouraged others to cast deserving and gifted Studio students.
Experience is the best teacher ...
Let Jonathan Beck Reed help you reveal the possibilities.
